Inspired by historic links to the first University College of the country and inherited intellectual traditions, the University of Colombo strives to be a world class institution promoting human development through synergizing knowledge, education, research and creativity, and entrepreneurship whilst upholding democratic values in a plural society.

With the rapid phase of technological advancement one cannot escape the ubiquitous globalization now embracing all aspects of our daily lives. The University of Colombo is no different to other universities worldwide. We need to have universal focus on thinking innovatively while being dramatically acting to suit the local environment scenario. Modern technological advances in communication had created a virtual space for information sharing, collaboration, debate and intellectual discourse.
Communication through the internet and intranet access is first and foremost important and intended for university’s communication that support in fulfilling the mission and in achieving its objectives.
Careful use and management of worldwide web and all electronic communication tools can have tremendous impact on our virtual space, quality of our teaching–mode of delivery, research and our intellectual discourse. Having realized the need of right infrastructure, the university intends to take continuous positive steps towards this end. The website of the University servers as a spring board to demonstrate strengths, value added services and also our presence with the international community.
Access to University’s communication tools, website and engage in interaction would provide a dynamic support in maintaining university’s continued eminence and distinguished international reputation.

The University of Colombo has Seven Faculties with 41 Academic Departments, a Campus, a School, 7 Institutes and 5 centres. Six faculties cater to undergraduates as well as postgraduates of the respective disciplines and in addition, the Faculty of Graduate Studies, which provides diploma and postgraduate courses of a multi-disciplinary nature, now concentrating on capacity building by entering into linkages with the outside world. The seven faculties are as follows:
The Sri Palee Campus which was established in 1996 as the Western Campus subsequently changed its name to the Sri Palee Campus and was affiliated to the University in September 1998 under the Universities Act No.16 of 1978. This Campus is located at Wewala, Horana in a 32 acre land.
