Biotechnology Education and Information Center (BEIC) |

A Biotechnology Education and Information center is established in the Department under the directorship of Dr. G. A. U. Jayasekera. The center is functioning in collaboration with Michigan State University and International Service for the Acquisition of Agro biotech Application. Main objective of the center is to enhance the Biotechnology (BT) capacity in Sri Lanka.
The program is of two phases.
Phase i – A computer-based center to be established to work with Biotechnological data in Sri Lanka. A BT resource center will be established in the Department. The participation of all stakeholders in BT will be considered in establishing the procedures.
Phase ii – Conducting training programs. (I.e. short courses, seminars, and workshops). The emphasis will be on providing training on policy making. |
The Committee consists of ; Dr. A. Jayasekera (Director), Head of the Department of Plant Sciences, Dean/ Faculty of Science, Dr. S. Abeyasiriwardene (Rice Research Institute), Prof. A. Perera (Project coordinator, National Bio Safety Framework Project) and Dr. D. D. Karunaratna (UCSC).
