Objective
The
aim of this program is to enhance and update the knowledge
in contemporary Physics of science graduates who are
already teaching Physics or those graduates who wish
to become Physics teachers. Further the program will
help them gain proper skills in effective and interactive
teaching of Physics at school level using modern teaching
techniques. |
| Eligibility
and Admission Criteria
A
Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) from a recognized
university with Physics as a subject or any other
equivalent qualification acceptable to the Senate
of the University of Colombo. The candidates will
be selected based on an interview and/or examination

| Program
Structure [2008
intake]
The
M.Sc. program consists of course work (23C) and a
research project (8C). The Faculty of Education of
the University of Colombo will provide the modules
on science education (MSE modules). The duration of
the entire program is 02 years (4 semesters).

Part II

Examination
Criteria
All
the theory course modules will be evaluated by written
examinations and/or assignments. Laboratory course modules
will be evaluated by a continuous assessment and/or
end of the semester examination. Seminars will be evaluated
by presentations. The research project will be evaluated
through a written dissertation and a viva-voce examination. |
Degree/Diploma awarding criteria
General
guidelines of the Faculty of Science will apply to
the award of the M.Sc. and the Postgraduate Diploma
in Physics Education
Candidates
are required to sit for the examinations of all the
course modules in Part I. Students
who maintain a GPA of not less than 2.50 by the end
of part I will be allowed to proceed to part II. Those
who are unable to progress to part II may be awarded
the postgraduate diploma based on their performance
in part I. The M.Sc. degree and the postgraduate diploma
will be awarded according to the general guidelines
of the Faculty of Science.
