Stat Day
The Stat Day is the single-most major event organized by the Stat Circle. The primary objective of this annual event is to stimulate interest in statistics and other related fields, among students, the academia and the industry by providing a forum of sorts for presenting and discussing various issues related to statistics. This also provides an excellent opportunity for students to get acquainted with the industry and attune themselves to contemporary methodology.
The Day's Events
Guest Speech and Panel Discussion
A number of well-known guest speakers, from government, semi-government, academic and business communities of Sri Lanka, would address the gathering during the first part of this event. This would be followed by an interactive session, during which the audience would be given a chance to clarify any problems arisen related to the areas addressed previously.
Quiz Programme
Teams comprising of students from several universities in the country will participate in this programme. This would mainly be a test of their practical knowledge in the use of statistics. Certificates and prizes would be awarded to the winning team and runners up.
Student Sessions
This is an opportunity for students to share their knowledge and experience in the practical application of statistics with others, by way of presentations made by them on various statistical research carried out during their undergraduate program. Certificates would be awarded to students who make presentations at this session.
Stat Day 2011
Stat Day 2011 was held on the 05th of May, 2011 at the Prof. V. K. Samaranayake Auditorium in the University of Colombo School of Computing under the theme 'Statistics for Sustainable Development'.
