Department of Zoology

University of Colombo

The University College was formerly established in January 1921, at which time, a single lecturer represented the subject zoology. Then in year 1926 zoology was offered as a Honours subject for the first time. The department of Zoology was established in 1938 and Mr. D.R.R. Burt was appointed as the first professor and chairperson of the department with a cadre of two other staff members.
