The Econ Computer Unit (ECU) provides computer facilities for the Final year Economics Special undergraduate students and postgraduate students of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Arts. The ECU is presently equipped with 15 Client Computers, Server, B&W printer, Color printer and Scanner with latest software applications.

Services at ECU

• Training and Self-use
The ECU programme consists of two components as training and self-use. Under the self-use component of the ECU, facilities are made available for students to use computer for self-learning and for their own purposes. For training and self-use, in addition to the teacher or instructor, Computer Applications Assistant will assist students.

Undergraduate students should get prior permission from the Head of the Department of Economics or Co-ordinator/ECU for both training and self-use sessions. Registered postgraduate students can use the ECU for both training and self-use but for the training programme prior booking is needed. Postgraduate students can use the ECU for their self-use at any time unless the ECU is occupied with training programme.

• Training programme
Training programmes can be conducted at the ECU by outside organization/ person with a payment for computer usage and the ECU employee. But it can be conducted only in evening 5.30pm to 7.30 pm. on week days, Saturday 2.00pm to 6.00 pm. and Sunday 9.00am – 6.00 pm.

ECU will conduct Computer Training programmes for student who needs econometric computer knowledge and basic computer skills. These training programmes will be conducted for a team of students not for individuals. The students have to pay a reasonable fee for these training programmes.

• Other Services
Printouts can be obtained while the student should handover the printer ready file to printer.
Scanning of documents and photos can be done at the ECU.
Internet browsing
The registered postgraduate students are allowed to use the internet facility without any additional charge. The undergraduate students are restricted to use the internet facility at the ECU unless they get special permission from the Head of the Department.

Opening hours
Normally the ECU is kept open 10 hours on working days from 08.00am - 06.00pm. The last 1 hour of every working day, (from 05.00pm - 06.00pm), the ECU is used for training purpose depending on the demand. According to the demand the opening hours may be extended further. Arrangements can be made to open the ECU from 09.00am – 6.00pm on Saturdays, Sundays and other public holidays.

Type of instructions provided for the users at ECU.
1. A User Guide with basic instructions is made available for each student who needs it.
2. The Computer Assistant will help the students, whenever they have questions and problems.
