Vanie: Explorations in Contemporary Sri Lankan Sociology
As part of its 40th Anniversary Celebrations, the Department has launched an annual refereed journal titled Vanie: Explorations in Contemporary Sri Lankan Sociology. ‘Vanie’ essentially means ‘voices’ in Sanskrit. Published bilingually in Sinhala and English, the journal welcomes submissions from the general areas of sociology and social anthropology as well as other disciplinary areas in the social sciences and humanities that can inform the thinking and research in sociology. Of more interest to the journal would be contributions focused on research in Sri Lanka in particular and South Asia in general. The journal does not welcome simple statistical analyses but is more interested in essays that would combine qualitative research coupled with a rigorous interrogation of social theory.
The deadline for submission of contributions for Volume 1 is 21st of February 2010
