The Sociological Students' Association was revamped on the 10th of December 2009 under the able leadership of Jegan Prakash and a vibrant committee consisting of the Sociology Special degree students from the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years.

Their first event was to colourwash the Department Library to assist in the refurbishing of the department. They have also produced snazzy SSA t-shirts to raise funds for the future programmes of SSA. These are available for Rs. 800. The SSA is also selling University of Colombo pens to fund their projects.

The SSA is also pioneering the effort to transform unused university space into a critical, creative space for the use of students. The Welcome for the 2nd Year Special Degree students was held in this “space”. The SSA have also collaborated with the Department to organize a workshop on Research Methods and Academic Writing and have also started a weekly discussion series on contemporary issues that university students face. The first discussion successfully completed was on 'Love'.
