Department of Science and Technology Education
The Department of Science and Technology Education (DSTE) bear part in its full capacity to the faculty of Education at all levels and sectors in the mission of strengthening the process of education by developing knowledge and training of graduates as professionals in education and in the initiation of undergraduate to the field of Education. The department contributes by providing subjects related to Curriculum, Curriculum implementation, Science, Mathematics and Technology Education and information Technology for undergraduates and postgraduates. DSTE plays major role in training of Science, Mathematics and ICT teachers for the diploma in education.

Department of Humanities Education
The Department of Humanities Education is an active operational body, which functions with a broad perspective under the authority of the University of Colombo. I would like to enlighten you on the contribution of our department towards the knowledge society.
The Department undertakes tasks with a special tendency to develop the mental alertness of an individual. We extend our services to the community in collaboration with the university students as well as the other formal and non formal agencies.

Department of Educational Psychology
The Department of Educational Psychology contribute to the faculty to make its' vision of developing a committed professional in education a reality by providing necessary knowledge and skills to students to work as teachers, teacher educators, counselors, evaluators and researchers in education.
Department of Educational Psychology is one of the four departments belonging to the Faculty of Education, the first Faculty of Education in Sri Lanka. Since establishing, its main research and teaching areas are Educational Psychology and Educational Measurement and Evaluation. However, during the past two decades it has expanded its role. At present Psychological Counseling has become an important area in the department.

Department of Social Science Education
The Department of Social Science Education of the Faculty of Education will be part and parcel of the Faculty in developing teacher education programs to produce teachers who will be responsible and accountable for stimulating student learning. To this end, the Department by means of research will analyse, question and seek answers for complex problems in the Faculty of Education. This challenge will require the Department to ensure that educational theories are interwoven and directly related to real teaching-learning situations. The Department will reflect such integration through a realization of linkages and bonds among programs, the Faculty, student teachers, educational administrators, schools and the community at large.

National Education Research and Evaluation Center (NEREC)
The National Education Research and Evaluation Center (NEREC) is a research centre functioning under the Faculty of Education, University of Colombo was established with the assistance of the World Bank in the year 2000. This is the first national level center established with the view of providing information for policy makers. From the inception NEREC is proud to say that nearly 25 studies completed in various field such as Teacher Education, National Assessment, Social Cohesion, Educational Management, etc. and catering to the local and foreign requests in the above areas.
