SELECTION EXAMINATION FOR ENROLMENT TO THE TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR MSc IN BIO MEDICAL INFORMATICS – DECEMBER 2010

 

 The above examination will be held on 02nd December 2010.

 

2.         Applications are invited by me from medical/dental officers possessing the following requirements to sit the Selection Examination for enrolment to the training programme leading to the MSc in Bio Medical Informatics.

 

The minimum entry criteria will be one of the following qualifications.

 

            (a) Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Degree or Equivalent Degree

            (b) Bachelor of Dental Sciences (BDS) or Equivalent Degree

(c)  Bachelor of Science Honours degree (BSc Honours) in computer Science or Equivalent Degree

(d) Bachelor of Science Honours degree in any health or biomedicine related field

     (e.g. Nursing, Pharmacy, Biology, Veterinary Sciences, Physics)

 

Note :-

-         Those who have the qualifications mentioned in (a) and (b) above should have a Medical Degree registered with the Sri Lanka Medical Council and completed one year of medical experience after internship as at the date of closure of applications, i.e. 29th  October 2010 ;

Foreign nationals who seek registration in respect of the selection process should posses a medical degree registrable with the Sri Lanka Medical Council. The registrability will be determined on a case by case basis.

 

-         Those who have the qualifications mentioned in (c) and (d) above should have completed two years work related experience in a medical or health related work setting which is acceptable to the Specialty Board in Bio Medical Informatics as at the closure of applications, 29th October, 2010.

 

3.         Please refer the new regulations laid down by the Ministry of Health regarding release of Medical Officers of Department of Health in PGIM website – www.cmb.ac.lk/pgim. The relevant Circular is attached herewith.

 

4.         The selection test consists of a Multiple Choice Question Paper held on 2nd December 2010 (60 questions to be answered in two hours).  Candidates should qualify the MCQ paper in order to proceed for the Practical / Viva-voce which will be held two weeks later. Foreign applicants will be tested using web based methods. The questions will be on General Information and Communication Technology / General Health Sciences.

                                                                                                                                  

 

5.         The maximum number selected for the training programme will be 30.

           

 

6.         The prescribed fees for the examination are as follows:

 

                        (a) Registration fee                    Rs. 2,300.00   (Non refundable)

                        (b) Examination fee                   Rs. 8,500.00

 

            (Private candidates will be charged 50% more on each fee of PGIM)

 

7.         Special arrangement has been made to accommodate private sector candidates provided they have completed the requirement of post intern one year at a private sector medical institution or by serving with a General Practitioner or private hospitals recognized by the Specialty Board in Bio Medical Informatics of the PGIM and approved on case by case basis. (Please contact Examination Department for detailed circular).

                                                                                                                       

8.         Eligible candidates should obtain the prescribed application forms from the Examination Branch, Postgraduate Institute of Medicine on payment of Rs.500.00 or can be downloaded from our website www.cmb.ac.lk/pgim. Requests for application and other details by post should accompany a SASE 9”x 4” in size and a money order for Rs.500.00 drawn in favour of Postgraduate Institute of Medicine and payable at the Cinnamon Gardens Post Office, Colombo7. The envelope should be marked “Application for selection examination for enrolment to the MSc in Biomedical Informatics” at the top left hand corner.

 

9.         Completed applications with every cage filled should be forwarded through the Head Of Department, confirming that the applicants if selected would be released for postgraduate training in the PGIM. Dental Officers employed in the Ministry of Health should obtain approval of the DGHS in their application. The applications should reach the Senior Asst. Registrar/Examinations, Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, 160, Norris Canal Road, Colombo 7 on or before 29th October 2010. Incomplete applications and late applications will not be considered under any circumstances.
