Collection

The Library actively collects and preserves materials related to all academic disciplines taught in the university. In general, the collections span different kinds of books, manuscripts, audio visual materials, theses and rare materials.  This range of resources is basically maintained to support the teaching and research activities of the University.
The print collection of the library is the second largest collection in the university system in Sri Lanka whilst the online collection is the largest electronic collection in the country.  Print collection comprises of around 340,000 volumes in the main library, 21,000 in the medical and 27,000 in the Science library. In addition the library subscribes to several subject specific international journals and local journals, CDs, and theses.  Back volumes of the journals subscribed are preserved and made available for use.

Online collection of the university is composed of electronic databases which mainly contain e-journals. The collection is not static and the number of subscribed databases varies from year to year based on the availability of funds. All online collections have been IP authenticated to facilitate all users to access the databases from any terminal available anywhere in the university premises. Electronic book collection consists of e-books in most of the subject areas in the university which are freely available in the internet.  The library intranet provides comprehensive coverage of newspapers, subject gateways for user requirements
