The department is responsible for the organization and implementation of the undergraduate Community Stream teaching programme spanning the five years of the curriculum. The academic staff also teaches in the Applied Sciences, Behavioural and Clinical Sciences Stream.

Exhibition on health related social services and services available for people living with disability
The Department of Community Medicine held an exhibition on health related social services and services available for people living with disability on the 9th of May 2011 from 9.am to 4.30pm. The chief guest of the event was Dr Firdosi Rustom Metha, the World Health Organization representative in Sri Lanka. The exhibition was open for all students and staff of this Faculty. Persons from the health care institutions (Government and non government) and other medical faculties also participated. 30 institutions providing services for the disabled participated for the event.
