The vision of the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy is in keeping with the vision of the Faculty of Medicine and of the University of Colombo. The vision of the University of Colombo is " to be a centre of excellence of regional and international repute that will create new knowledge and sustain a culture of learning and critical inquiry and foster a spirit of service and commitment to national development and democratic values in a plural society".

The vision of the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy is directed "to become a centre of excellence in clinical pharmacology and pharmacy.

The mission of our department is to develop a medical graduate who is competent to prescribe safely and effectively and, to develop a pharmacy graduate who is competent in dispensing medicines safely and effectively.

• To train undergraduates and postgraduates in the disciplines of clinical pharmacology therapeutics and pharmacy.
• To conduct postgraduate research programs leading to the Degree of Master of Philosophy in Pharmacology or Pharmacy.
•  To provide professional services to the community, at the National level to the Ministry of  Health and professional bodies and at the  International Level to the World Health Organization and  other  countries and organizations.
• To foster independent research by the academic staff.
