The Medical Library...
The Medical Library of our Faculty is one of the oldest Medical Libraries in Sri Lanka. It is the focal point of the Health Literature Library and Information Service (HELLIS) network of Libraries and Information Centers in Sri Lanka.
With the approach of the new millennium the library is moving away from the concept of a traditional library towards that of an information resource centre. As a result of new technology, CDROM based MEDLINE searching, online database access and Internet facilities are available now.
The Medical Library situated on the first floor of the administrative block is reasonably well stocked with both textbooks, reference books and journals.
The library hours are:
Monday - Friday 8.30h - 20.00h
Weekends, public holidays etc 8.30h - 20.00h
Each student is entitled to 2 non-transferable loan tickets on registering at the library. The yellow ticket entitles the student to borrow reference books overnight and the blue ticket entitles nonreference books to be taken on a week’s loan. Permanent reference books, labeled as such on the spine of the book, may not be removed from the library. Fines are imposed on all books not returned by the due date.
The library rules will be explained when the librarian addresses the new entrants. Library guide will be issued to each students at the library registration.
Some departments have individual departmental libraries, which are accessible to students on request. The Department of Anatomy library has one of the largest collections of reference books for students. Some of these books can also be borrowed.
