In the year 2000, a B.Sc. course in Pharmacy was begun by the Faculties of Medicine and Science of the University of Colombo.
In addition to training medical graduates, the Faculty plays an important role in training paramedical staff by participating in the training programmes of the School of Radiography, School of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, ECG Recordists Training Programme, Optimetrists Training Programme, Nurses Training School, and the Post basic Nurses Training School.
The Department of Pharmacology conducts the Diploma Course in Pharmacy , the Internal Pharmacy course for the Ministry of Health and assists the Ceylon Medical College Council by conducting the External Pharmacy Examination.
The Department of Community Medicine conducts in-service training for Public Health Inspectors in Occupational Health and also conducts a Certificate course, Diploma course and a Postgraduate course in Occupational Health & Safety.
