Standing Committee on Career Guidance in Universities

The Director represented the UGC Standing Committee for Career Guidance with 90% participation from July 2003. All directors are members of the committee and chaired by the Chairman UGC with positive contribution from private sector organizations. A workshop for Career Guidance and Social Harmony was held on 16  and 17  March 2004 at the Kandalama Hotel, Dambulla, for all VC’s, Directors of Career Guidance Units, and UGC officials including Chairman UGC, Prof. Ranjith Mendis.  Prof. Tilak Hettiarchchi (VC, University of Colombo) attended the workshop. Among the presenters were Prof. Georg Frerks (Utrecht University, Netherlands), Dr. Chris van der Borgh (Utrecht University, Netherlands), Dr. Rees Hughes (California State University, USA) and Dr. K. M. Nalin de Silva, the Director, CGU, University of Colombo, Mr. Charles Fernando, the Director CGU, University of Sri Jayawardenapura and Dr. Rohan Tittagala, the Director, CGU of University of Moratuwa.

Forum on Career Guidance and Counselling

Dr. Rees Hughes, Who is a Fulbright Scholar and Advisor to the OPA on Career Guidance, formed a forum on Career Guidance Units of Sri Lanka. The aims of the forum are to ensure that networking occurs between participants, to emphasize information sharing with participants from various organizations  and to look for opportunities to collaborate and support each other. This was held on 29 January 2004 with participation from all universities and Ministries at the OPA. The second workshop was held on 29 April 2004 at the OPA.
