During the last few months of the year 2003, the Career Guidance Unit managed to upgrade the IT facilities by acquiring three computers, a multimedia projector, a Scanner, a Laser printer and a Colour printer. These facilities were obtained by the UGC allocation of Rs. 500,000 (0.5 M) for the year 2003. The unit has a resource centre open for the use of students, which has several informational booklets. These materials contain valuable information on job orientation, CV writing tips, Interview facing tips etc. Funds brought in to the centre during last 8 months are

• ADB Science and Technology project                           Rs.   190,000 (To conduct workshops and seminars)

• IRQUE, Insitutional Block Grant                                    Rs.1,200,000 (To improve the infrastructure)

• UGC allocation for the unit for IT facilities in 2003      Rs.   500,000

• UGC allocation for the unit for IT facilities in 2004      Rs.   500,000

Request for University of Colombo ALUMNI

The Career Guidance Unit kindly requests alumni to participate in conducting these courses (especially English and IT) to improve the employability of our own graduates. Already there are few alumni participating in programmes. The mismatch between the private sector and our graduates can be overcome by facilitating and helping our graduates to improve their soft skills through career development programmes. The CGU kindly requests for any volunteers who can contribute to conduct programmes which are related to Career Development. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated.

All people who contributed to the career development programmes as resource persons are greatly acknowledged. Without your generous support the unit will not be in a position to conduct these programmes. The university wishes to thank all resource personnel from the private sector and other organizations for  their commitment in undertaking a social responsibility. We desperately need more volunteers to run programmes. Let  us know your details if you are willing to conduct any career related programmes for students.
