The First public show “Ravana: The Legend Untold”

University of Colombo proudly staged the first public show of the “Ravana The Legend Untold” Ballet Opera produced by the university at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksha Theatre on 2nd June 2018 with the participation of a wider community as the audience.

Honorable Mr. Gamini Jayawickrama Perera; Honorable Minister of Ministry of Buddha Sasana , Honorable Mr. Mohan Lal Grero; Honorable State Minister of Ministry of Higher Education and  Cultural Affairs, Senior Professor Lakshman Dissanayaka; Vice Chancellor, University of Colombo, Dr. Jayanthi Gunasekara; Director General, National Institute of Education, Mr. Thusitha Wijesena; Chairman, Kandy City Centre and  Property Finance & Investments Kandy (Pvt) Ltd., Mr. Namel weeramuni; veteran film director, Mr. Badraji Mahinda Jayatilake; a renowned artist and  many other artists, university academics, administrative officers, students and general public witnessed the first public show of the Ballet Opera.

The Ravana, the Legend Untold is the first ever ballet opera produced by a State University in Sri Lanka and is based on a popular historical novel, “Sri Ravanna Puwatha,”. The musical script was written by Bhadraji Mahinda Jayatilaka, a renowned script writer in Sri Lanka, who currently resides in the United States of America. The Ballet Opera is directed, music composed and choreographed by Mrs. Thanuja Bandula of Ranara Academy casting undergraduate students of University of Colombo in all roles.
