Course Unit Selection for First Year in Arts
Students have to select 10 units for the academic year in the following manner:
Six (6) CUs, (two from each principal subject which have equal ranking in weight) +
English FNDE (2) units: For all first year undergraduates (except those exempted from the English placement test it is mandatory to select the two Foundation Course Units (FNDE 1108 and FNDE 1209) in English offered by the English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU). +
Two (2) FND units: (Students who are exempted from the English Proficiency course have to select 4 FND CUs) Table 3 explains the way in which students should select the minimum required number of CUs for the First Year in Arts.

Six (06) course units (two (02) from each principal subject), and
+ English FNDE two (02) units (FNDE 1108 – Proficiency Course in English and FNDE 1209 – Proficiency Course in English), and
+ Two (02) FND units = 10 (Students who are exempted from the English Proficiency course have to select four (04) FND course units).
The Students will be allowed only up to a maximum of seven (7) course units per semester in any combination (current/repeat/incomplete). 1st year students can only select course units offered for the First year – 2011/12.
